The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) promised that there is no power interruption that is scheduled during the holidays.

According to the PhInformation Agency (PIA), the NGCP decided to suspend its maintenance activities to prevent any power interruption during the holidays.

The NGCP has been looking at completing its replacement of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) at tower number 38 and 41, located at Pres. Carlos P. Garcia town and Ubay.

Aside from the difficulty of losing electricity during the holidays, the NGCP’s barge is on dry dock and it is hard for them to transport tools and equipment to and from Tapal Whart in Ubay to Popoo port in Pres. Carlos P. Garcia.

Towers 38 and 41 are the ones toppled when typhoon Odette hit this part of the country last year and interrupted the flow of electricity from Leyte to Bohol.

Bohol remains to be highly dependent on the geothermal plants located in Leyte for electricity.

The good news is that the NGCP is building another transmission link from Cebu as a back-up whenever the Leyte-Bohol interconnection bogs down.

The Cebu-Bohol interconnection is expected to be completed by 2023, according to reports.
