Boholano basketball player Scottie Thompson who plays for Barangay Ginebra in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) was voted as Fiba Asia Cup 2022 Player of the Year.

Thompson won over Japan’s star forward Yuta Watanabe, according to reports.

Thompson, who is the reigning PBA most valuable player, got more votes than Brooklyn Nets’ player Watanabe.

It was pointed out earlier by Buenavista mayor Dave Duallo that Thompson’s ancestry can be traced to the northern Bohol town.

The mayor said that Thompson has plenty of relatives in Buenavista town and used to spend his holidays there.

Duallo said Thompson and his family migrated to Mindanao but occasionally would return to Bohol to visit some relatives

Moreover, other contenders who lost to Thompson in the voting are Sanchir Tungag of Mongolia and Behnam Yaknchali of Iran.

Basketball afficionados across Asia were the ones who voted for the Player of the Year honors, according to Fiba, the world governing body for basketball.
