Sec. Remulla wishes son’s redemption following acquittal from drug charges

Justice Sec. Jesus Crispin Remulla

Justice Sec. Jesus Crispin Remulla wishes his eldest son, Juanito Jose Remulla III, can redeem himself after the latter was acquitted by a Las Piñas court of drug possession charges.

The Las Piñas Regional Trial Court branch 197 acquitted the younger Remulla, 38, for drug possession. The son was arrested in his home in October 2022 after he received a parcel containing kush or high-grade marijuana valued at P1.3 million.

The younger Remulla was arrested where the authorities attempt to catch the recipient of the package which they already knew the contents are illegal.

For its part, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) will be analyzing the decision of the court and determine the cause of the exoneration so that it will not happen in the future.

The court in its decision said there is reasonable doubt that the younger Remulla received the package as his reaction was the same as a person who is not expecting a package.

The younger Remulla said that the arrival of the package came as a surprise saying he had no idea about the parcel’s content and he did not pay for it.

He denied that he knew the consignee of the parcel.
