<strong>Heavy rains batter Bohol</strong>

Heavy rains have been battering Bohol since Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023.

Rains, on the heels of a low pressure area, are affecting the weather of the province and the rest of the region.

With this condition, classes in all levels in both private and public schools, are being suspended including all work in government offices.

Meanwhile, suspension of work the the private sector, is under the discretion of management.

In several occasions, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), have released severe rainfall warnings to Boholanos informing them of possible landslides and flooding.

Classes in all levels and work in the government sector are now suspended on account of heavy rains in the province today, Jan. 12, 2022. This is according to the Capitol based information from NDRRMC. (Discretion sa management ang private work suspension according to Anggong).

The provincial DRRM chief Anthony Damalerio reported that his team has been monitoring hazard areas for possible rescue operations resulting from flooding or landslides.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the low pressure area (LPA) was spotted near Surigao del Norte as of early morning of Jan. 12, 2023.

The  LPA is bringing heavy rains in the Visayas and Mindanao, the state weather bureau said.

PAGASA also said that Visayas will continue to have cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the LPA.

Moderate to strong winds from the northeast to northwest will prevail over the  Visayas area,  the PAGASA concluded.

According to Capt. Geogie Sarabosing of the Pilar police station,  the Malinao Dam overflowed on Wednesday due to heavy rains and had to release some water.

The water level at the said dam reached its critical  level on Wednesday, hence, the decision to discharge the excess water, the police chief said.

There were no reported casualties as people near the dam have been evacuated, Sarabosing added.

Meanwhile, at least 200 families in 9 towns have been evacuated due to flooding brought about by heavy rains, according to Damalerio.

The towns of Alicia, Calape, Catigbian, Albur, Carmen, Clarin, Candijay, Guindulman, Pilar are among the areas which experienced flooding due to heavy rains, Damalerio added.
