Former Balilhan OIC Mayor Elias Baquero dies

Former officer-in-charge (OIC) Mayor of Balilihan town, Elias Baquero, died early Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023.

He was 63.

Reports say that Baquero died of cardiac arrest in his home in Cebu City.

Baquero’s death was confirmed by another Boholano insurance executive, Andy Manatad, in a telephone interview on Jan. 15, 2023.

Radyo dyKC also confirmed Baquero’s death. Baquero had a radio program
in the said station called “Yagyagan”.

The death of Baquero was further confirmed by the Cebu Citizens Press Council.

Baquero retired as a reporter of Sun. Star Cebu in
2019 after 30 years of having been a journalist.

Before his stint at Sun Star, Baquero worked in several daily newspapers such as People’s Journal, Philippine Daily Inquirer and Republic News, among others.

To recall, Baquero was picked out in 1986 as OIC mayor of Balilihan town by the Aquino administration and in 1988 he was replaced by the elected mayor of the town, Edgar Chatto.

Before his appointment as Balilihan OIC Mayor, he was first appointed as OIC governor of Bohol but he refused the appointment and instead took the position of OIC mayor of Balilihan.

He is survived by his wife Bebie, his daughters Grace Caroline, Hope Cessly, Precious Ivy, Lyka Genesis and son Neil Elias.
