Medical Insider – Dr. Bryan Cepedoza

Top pulmonologist warns people of new Covid variant

Top pulmonologist Dr. Bryan Cepedoza said the medical community is monitoring the new variant called XB.B 15. 5 which is touted to be the subvariant of the Omicron variant.

“Gitana-aw nato ang subvariant ug mao nay gi-studyhan karon kay mao nay ilang gipasumanginlan ngaong nikalit ug saka ang kaso sa US ug pati sa ubang parts sa kalibutan,” the doctor said.

The doctor also said that cases of the Coronavirus disease (Covid) in the United States have increased but it was observed that even if covid cases have surged, the mortality rate has not increased.

The subvariant is highly infectious but it is not causing severe forms of Covid to people who get infected.

He said that the low mortality rate due to the subvariant could be attributed to the fact that there a huge number of people already vaccinated against Covid.

Cepedoza said, too, that the vaccines administered to people still have, but to now, a protective effect. This means that people vaccinated can still get infected but the effects are mild.

He advised the people people concerned to get vaccinated and if possible get the needed booster shots soobest.

At the same time, people should continue to observe the health and safety protocol in order to lower the risk of infection.

He surmises that if we will not be careful,  in a few months, Covid cases in the country will surge just like what is happening in the US, China and other parts of the world.
