DPWH assures Loay’s Clarin bridge is passable, safe

The chief of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Third Engineering District, Magiting Cruz, assured that the Clarin Bridge located in Loay town remains to be passable and safe.

In a report, Cruz clarified that the crack is on the approach of the bridge and not on the bridge itself. Thus, the bridge remains safe to use.

This comes as photos of a crack traversing across the road near the bridge circulated on social media over the weekend.

Moreover, Cruz said that a crack may normally appear at the approaches of a new bridge due to the movement of the ground beneath. The crack does not affect the bridge’s condition, he added.

He already instructed the bridge’s contractor to fix the problem to prevent the crack from getting worse, reports say.

The current Clarin bridge is a replacement of an old one. The old bridge collapsed in April 2022 that killed 4 people.

The current Clarin bridge was inaugurated and opened to traffic on June 2022.

On Feb. 18, 2023, a photo of the crack near the bridge circulated on social media which raised concerns about the bridge’s safely among netizens.
