President Marcos launches affordable food program in Cebu

President Bongbong Marcos

President Bongbong Marcos, together with Governor Gwen Garcia and House Speaker Martin Romualdez, inaugurated the “KADIWA ng Pangulo” program at the Cebu Provincial Capitol this Monday morning. The program aims to provide food commodities at low prices to high consumer demand areas.

According to The Freeman, the program will involve private sector participation, capacity enhancement of farmers’ cooperatives and associations, and community organizations’ participation in the food supply distribution system. The program will also create additional markets for farmers and fishers, increasing their income and ensuring the stability of price and supply of food and other basic commodities.

Meanwhile, in Bohol, fish prices remain high despite the Fish Program of the provincial administration. DYTR reported that imported fish from Mindanao are sold in only a few places and not always available. DYTR also reported that local fish from Bohol’s seas are sold at high prices at fishports and markets, especially in Tagbilaran City.

The Fish Program of Bohol has been criticized for prioritizing propaganda mileage over providing affordable and accessible fish to consumers. The head of Fish Program admitted that imported fish are not enough to meet the demand and that local fishers are reluctant to sell their catch at low prices.
