From the Outside Looking In

by Donald Sevilla

LESS TALK MORE ACTION

Men love recognition for the things they do and to bask in the flattery and adulation where credit is given. Politicians are no exception and they love to hug the limelight all the more.

In the world of politics, perception matters such that politicians go to extra-lengths to project a good image of themselves. Politicians are masters in the art of public relations and often skillful at deception.

Many are glib talkers and smooth-tongued and sound so convincing. But for the life of us, we must take every word they say with a grain of salt. We must be discerning as we should be attentive, reading between the lines lest we fall victim to their propaganda.

While we desire good leaders and honest public servants, we often fall short of our expectations. Finding them is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Yet we must never give up and continue to be steadfast in our quest.

Good governance may be difficult to attain but not impossible. Human as we are, we have to learn to live with the imperfections and make the most out of it.

We must also learn to know the truth from a lie, and to distinguish propaganda from fact. Leaders who talk a lot and love to show-off their every move are often shallow not deep. Those who blow their own horns are less ideal than those who work silently to achieve their goals.

The public wants results, not just empty talk. We want concrete action not plans. We love a doer not a talker.

Yet, we must not be misled by clever rhetoric. No matter the hard-sell we must always be wary. Let us remember that true leaders are confident of themselves. They stand up for their actions and don’t crack at the slightest pressure.

All the things we do reflect us. We are what we make of ourselves. Talk much, achieve less. Do more, talk less and we are well on our way to success. Talk is cheap but hard work and actions pay off!
