Top pulmonologist reveals facts about broken heart syndrome

Top pulmonologist Dr. Bryan Cepedoza revealed the facts about the so-called broken heart syndrome.

He made the revelation during his regular radio interview over “Newsmakers Ug Uban Pa” on Feb. 14, 2023 conducted by Ardy Araneta-Batoy and Dave Albarado.

The doctor said that people who experience loss or any kind of depressing event in their lives may be contracting the broken heart syndrome.

This syndrome is also known as the takutsubo disease and is mainly caused by stress. It is characterized by a sudden weakening of the heart especially the muscular portion.

When a person is emotional, the heart may get injured even if the person is perfectly healthy.

People who are grieving, suffering from divorce or losing a job may develop the broken heart syndrome.

Cepedoza said that the disease is called takutsubo because it was discovered by a Japanese doctor.

He said that when the body is under stress, there are hormones that could impact the heart’s health and could cause the said disease.

If ever there is too much stress, the oxygen levels in the body go down and this is the reason a person suffers from a heart attack.

In closing, the doctor reminded the public to drink moderately and avoid too much salty and sweet food as the diet plays an important part in persevering the heart’s health.
