The Provincial Government of Bohol and researchers from the South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (SCSFRI, CAFS) are collaborating on a project to enhance aquaculture technologies and resources for Bohol fishing villages.
The Chinese Embassy has donated 15 million pesos to PGBh’s initiative project (spearheaded by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist). The researchers conducted a 3-day site visit to the proposed beneficiary areas in Ubay from March 25-26.
SCSFRI, CAFS will provide technical assistance for beneficiaries on resource management and sustainable aquaculture practices for three coastal barangays in Ubay: Guintaboan, Cuya, and Tintinan Island.
The project aims to increase the standard of living of fishers by introducing new approaches to fishery management and enhancing technical skills that will help increase fish production and the environmental protection of marine resources in the project’s beneficiary areas.
SCSFRI, CAFS added that they are open to more collaborations with the Provincial Government in marine resources conservation and introducing aquaculture technologies to enhance fishing in Bohol.
