Summer Filmfest entries at Screenville Cinemas
Three of the eight official entries of the first-ever summer edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) — “Apag”, “Here Comes the Groom”, and “Yung Libro sa Napanood Ko” – are now showing at Screenville Cinemas of Island City Mall and Alturas Mall.
A family drama directed by internationally acclaimed Filipino filmmaker Brillante Mendoza, “Apag” stars TV primetime king Coco Martin as a son of a wealthy family who figures in a car accident that killed a tricycle driver. He tries to cover up the case, but is caught in a downward spiral from the burden of guilt. Also in the cast are Shaina Magdayao, Jaclyn Jose, Lito Lapid, Gladys Reyes, and Mercedes Cabral.
Enchong Dee is a guy whose soul gets magically swapped with that of a transgender woman’s a day before his wedding in “Here Comes the Groom.” Bella Padilla directs and at the same time plays as a K-drama enthusiast and book writer who is approached by a Korean fan (Yoo Min-Gon) asking her to travel to South Korea with him as their relationship develops.
The inaugural summer filmfest will run for 11 days, starting yesterday, April 8, Black Saturday, until April 18, in cinemas nationwide, including Screenville.

“Super Mario Bros.” at Screenville Cinemas
From Illumination and Nintendo comes a new animated film based on the story of Super Mario Bros. and their journey through the Mushroom Kingdom, “Super Mario Bros.” will premiere on April 19 at Screenville Cinemas of Island City Mall and Alturas Mall.
To help bring their beloved characters to life on the big screen, Nintendo’s brought in an all-star cast to lend their voices to the likes of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Bowser.
In the cast are Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. Plumber Mario and Princess Peach must save “Mushroom Kingdom” from the evil King Bowser. But with the help from Princess Peach, Mario gets ready to square off against the all-powerful Bowser to stop his plans from conquering the world.
“SUPER MARIO BROS.” will premiere on April 19 at Screenville Cinemas of Island City Mall and Alturas Mall.
