Fake news alert: Woman in mall van not kidnapped

A viral video of a woman who was allegedly forced into a van and then released unharmed after being able to run away has been circulating in social media sites.

But according to Tagbilaran Mayor Jane Cajes-Yap, the woman and the driver of the van had a “meet-up” near a mall in Tagbilaran City because the woman was applying for a job.

The man who drove the van made moves that the woman did not like so she got off and went to the mall’s comfort room where she reported it to the guard.

The victim is from Loon while the suspect is from Panglao.

The police statement also clarifies that there was no kidnapping and that it is fake news, the Mayor said.

It’s important to always be vigilant and careful of our surroundings, Yap said.

“You can download Tagbilaran city app for hotline numbers,” she added.
