Supreme Court recognizes UB as top performing law school

The Supreme Court of the Philippines recently recognized the University of Bohol College of Law as one of the top-performing law schools in the country in the November 2022 Bar Examinations.

The high tribunal on Friday released the list of top-performing law schools and the list of successful bar examinees.

UB garnered an exemplary passing mark of 80% for first-time candidates, and is ranked fourth among the law schools with 1 to 10 candidates.  

The University also achieved a remarkable overall passing percentage which surpassed the national passing percentage of 43.47%.

Law Dean, Atty. Gregorio B. Austral, CPA, revealed that their new batch of lawyers imbued with the virtues of scholarship, character, and service are:  Atty. Christian L. Cabido, Atty. Romeo G. Cabading II, Atty. Deniel H. Galban, CPA, Atty. Deverly Y. Labor, Atty. Jasonry G. Bolongaita, and Atty. Gordiano M. Cuajao.

It may be recalled that UB Law was also recognized by the Philippine Supreme Court for having produced an exemplary bar passer in the person of Atty. Deneb S. Doydoraduring the 2020/2021 Bar Examinations.

As this develops, UB Law is preparing for the implementation of a ladderized JD-MLS programwhich will confer the degree of Master of Legal Studies after satisfactorily completing the first two years of the program.  Students who will successfully complete the third year and fourth year levels of study will be conferred with the Juris Doctor degree that will qualify them to take the bar examinations.

Learning from its best practices during the pandemic, UB Law will continue to deliver the JD-MLS program through the online flexible learning modality to produce members of the legal profession who are imbued with the values of integrity, discipline, excellence, and justice.

In its more than 50 years of dedicated service, UB Law has produced distinguished alumni who rendered commendable service in the government and private sectors.  

Among the University’s distinguished alumni are Atty. Victoriano B. Tirol Jr., who retired as a top official of the Department of Education, Atty. David B. Tirol and Atty. Erico B. Aumentado, former governors of the Province of Bohol, Atty. Jose V. Torralba, former Mayor of Tagbilaran City, Atty. Nuevas T. Montes and late husband Prosecutor Adriano P. Montes, former President of University of Bohol and former City Prosecutor of Tagbilaran City, respectively.  

The UB alumni currently occupying top posts in government are honorable Congresswoman Alexie Besas-Tutor of the third district of Bohol, Atty. Eliseo Labaria – Provincial COMELEC Supervisor, RTC Judges Hon. Sisinio C. Virtudazo of RTC Branch 4 Tagbilaran City, Hon. Jorge D. Cabalit of RTC Branch 48 of Tagbilaran City, and Hon. Glenn P. Pergamino of RTC Branch 52 of Talibon, among others.
