Bohol PNP warns against scammers using PD’s name

The Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) has warned the public concerning
scammers who are taking advantage of new communication technologies to carry
out their malicious acts of fraud and extortion of money from victims.
According to Police Colonel Lorenzo Batuan, BPPO director, there have been recent
incidents where scammers have used his name to ask for money and help from
victims.
Col. Batuan clarified that he does not ask for money or financial assistance.
He urged the public not to be fooled by scammers or malicious people.
The police also advised the public not to immediately believe if any personalities or
anyone calls or messages them, especially if they do not know them.
If the person contacting them is someone they know or a friend, they should take
steps to ensure that the person contacting them is really them, Batuad said in a
social media post.
Batuan said BPPO is committed to protecting the public from such scams.
He appeals to all Boholanos to be vigilant and cautious when dealing with unknown
callers or messages.
TV SCAMMERS
Sierra Bullones Police Station has issued a warning to the public about Android TV
scammers currently circulating on social media.
These scammers claim to provide internet and cable services and sell an android TV
box for P6,999.
They also offer a promo where customers can pay P3,999 in cash if they have a
senior ID.
In return, customers are promised free internet for one year.
However, the police station warns that these offers are fraudulent.
The scammers pretend to activate the service but they never return.
If customers take the 3,999-peso offer, they are left with a unit that is worth less than
1,000 pesos.
The Sierra Bullones Police Station urges the public to be vigilant and to report any
suspicious activity to their hotline number: 09985986438.
Stay safe and be aware of these scammers, the police station said.
