On April 26, 2023, Jagna mayor Joseph Rañola (standing, right side, holding a microphone) is shown delivering his welcome address to one group of guests visiting Jagna, Bohol for benchmark purposes. It is a fact that the municipality of Jagna has been actively supporting small, micro, and medium-sized entrepreneurs from women’s associations with the skills and perseverance to develop high-quality local
products. With the town’s visible progress in gender and development (GAD), other municipalities have asked to benchmark and learn more about how GAD works in Jagna. One of these municipalities is
Tagbilaran City. Recently, 87 representatives of provincial women’s associations visited Jagna as a learning center to obtain a better understanding of GAD and to be enhanced of women’s economic empowerment in local economic development. LGU-Jagna, led by Mayor Joseph Rañola, showed its support and hospitality to the guests by warmly welcoming them.The scheduled tour to the different
facilities including the holding of the panel discussion was moderated by Tourism Officer Ma. Lovella E. Acebes and Timoteo Escolano Jr., Jagna Sustainable Micro Enterprise Development Unit (JASMED)
Officer-in-Charge, together with representatives from the Jagna women’s associations: Jagna Calamay Producers Cooperative (JACAPCO) for Calamay, Canjulao League of Women (CLOW) for Tableja and
Banana Chips, Lubcanan Association for Cultural and Environmental Heritage (LACEH) for Pansit
Yaning, and Pangdan Women’s Association (PWA) for Pangdan Cookies. The presentors discussed in
detail the information needed for better GAD management. Overall, the visit was a success, and Jagna’s commitment to gender and development is a positive example for other municipalities to follow. Contributed photo
