70 boats join Saulog fluvial procession

A total of 70 decorated fishing boats sailed for the fluvial procession of Senyor San Jose on April 29, 2023 as part of the Saulog Tagbilaran 2023 festivities.

The procession, which takes place every year during the celebration of Saulog Tagbilaran and prior to its Feast Day, saw the image of the city patron saint, St. Joseph the Worker, carried on a boat along the Tagbilaran City strait, accompanied by a flotilla of boats carrying the different devotees.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap and Bishop Alberto Uy of the Diocese of Tagbilaran led the devotees in the activity which started with a Holy Mass at the St. Joseph Cathedral followed by a foot procession from the Cathedral to the Causeway area.

The activity continued with the fluvial procession that started at the Tagbilaran City Fish Port to Parola Uno and back to the fish port.

The Fluvial parade was open to all boats and operators were reminded to strictly observe the load capacity of their boats to avoid accidents.

“The fluvial parade is a long-standing tradition in our city, and I am grateful to see it continue to thrive year after year, as we remain faithful and devoted to St. Joseph the Worker,” Mayor Yap said.

She also expressed her deepest appreciation to everyone who helped make this event a success. Special words of thanks were expressed to Bishop Uy and all the participating boat owners and fisher folks.
Mayor Yap added that the hard work, dedication, and commitment of the organizers and participants are truly commendable despite the inclement weather.

Also present in the event were: Vice Mayor Adam Jala, Chief of Staff John Geesnell Yap II, City Councilors, members of the Clergy, City Government employees, boat operators and their families, Mutya sa Tagbilaran Winners, fisher folks and parishioners.

Aside from the image of St. Joseph the Worker, the images of Our Lady of the Assumption of Dauis and the Image of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Diocese of Tagbilaran were also part of the procession.
