Sandugo Festival 2023 Launched Today

The Provincial Government of Bohol will hold the Sandugo Festival launching ceremony today, Monday, May 8, 2023.

The Sandugo Festival is a festival of culture and history that commemorates the Treaty of Friendship signed in 1565 by Datu Sikatuna, the chieftain of Bohol, and Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi.

The public has been advised that the avenue between the National Museum of Bohol (the old Provincial Capitol building) and the Plaza Rizal will be temporarily closed on May 8, 2023, 8 AM to 11:30 PM for the said activity.

The Sandugo Festival comes from the word sandugo that literally translates to one or unified blood.

The festival commemorates the blood compact (kasikasi in local language, pacto de sangre in Spanish) between Spanish colonizer Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna, chieftain of Bohol, on March 25, 1565.
