PDRRMC on Heightened Alert Amid Tropical Cyclone Threat Potential

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) led by PDRRM Officer Dr. Anthony Damalerio and Governor’s Office chief of staff Atty. Filipina Asoy-Piollo representing PDRRMC chair Governor Aris Aumentado convened a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment meeting today, May 24, 2023, in preparation for the threat of Super Typhoon Mawar.

According to Leonard Samar of PAG-ASA, as of 3:00 AM today, May 24, 2023, Super Typhoon Mawar is located 2,215 km East of Visayas with maximum wind/gust of 185/230kph. It is forecast to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday late evening or Saturday early morning and will be named Typhoon Betty.

In Bohol, the super typhoon is forecast to bring a high to very high probability of 25mm rainfall and a 70% probability to exceed 50mm rainfall by Saturday, May 28, 2023, when it is nearest Visayas. 

A Gale warning is possible on Sunday through Tuesday with the weather outlook of moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas on these days.

The PDRRMC is on heightened alert and consistently monitoring for developments to map out mitigating and preparedness measures.
