Task Force Isda Gains Ground as Fish Buy Back ProgramContinues

Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado has commended Task Force Isda for its
ongoing efforts as the Fish Buy Back program gains ground.
Aumentado has encouraged member offices, Landbank, and partner
People’s Organizations to push for the project during a consultative
meeting geared towards the full implementation of the Fish Buy Back
program of the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh).
The Fish Buy Back program is a P100 million initiative that aims to
stabilize the price of fish in Bohol. The program provides financial
assistance to fisherfolks who are willing to sell their catch at a lower
price than the prevailing market price. The fish is then sold to the public
at a discounted price.
The program has been well-received by fisherfolks and consumers alike.
In the first few months of the program, the PGBh has already bought
back over 1,000 metric tons of fish. This has helped to stabilize the price
of fish in Bohol and make it more affordable for consumers.
The PGBh is strengthening its interventions by investing in support
facilities such as cold storage and ice-making machines. This will help to
ensure that the fish that is bought back is of good quality and can be
stored for longer periods of time.
The PGBh is also empowering and enhancing the capacities of People’s
Organizations. This will help the POs to play a more active role in the
Fish Buy Back program and to ensure that the benefits of the program
reach the intended beneficiaries.
The provincial government is also using a uniform tool for monitoring and
analysis of fish prices. This will help the PGBh to track the price of fish
and to identify areas where intervention is needed.
The Fish Buy Back program is a major initiative that is helping to
address the problem of high fish prices in Bohol. The program is making
a positive impact on the lives of fisherfolks and consumers alike. The
Capitol is committed to continuing the program and to making it even
more effective.

In addition to the Fish Buy Back program, the PGBh is also
implementing a number of other initiatives to address the problem of
high fish prices. These initiatives include:
 Providing financial assistance to fisherfolks to help them purchase
fishing gear and other equipment.
 Providing training to fisherfolks on modern fishing techniques.
 Promoting aquaculture as a way to increase the supply of fish.
 Working with local government units to improve the infrastructure
for fish production and marketing.
The PGBh is confident that these initiatives will help to make fish more
affordable for the people of Bohol.
