The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and
Astronomical Services Administration
(PAGASA) has announced that 10 to 15
typhoons are expected to enter the country
until October. This is in line with the
declaration that the rainy season has begun.
According to weather specialist Benison
Estareja, some of these typhoons are likely to
make landfall, especially in Luzon and
Visayas, while others will intensify in the
Southwest monsoon in the western part of the
country.
Estareja added that PAGASA may also
declare an El Niño phenomenon in the month
of July even though it is rainy.
El Niño is a weather pattern that occurs every
few years and is characterized by warmer-
than-average sea surface temperatures in the
central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean.
This can lead to changes in weather patterns,
including droughts and floods.
PAGASA is urging the public to be prepared
for the upcoming typhoon season.
Residents in areas prone to flooding and
landslides should be on alert and take
necessary precautions.
People should also monitor weather updates
and follow the instructions of local officials.
Here are some tips for staying safe during a
typhoon:
Stay indoors if possible.
If you must go outside, wear protective
gear, such as a helmet and rain gear.
Avoid driving in flooded areas.
If you are caught in a flood, move to
higher ground.
Listen to the radio or television for updates
on the typhoon.
Follow the instructions of local officials.
