4 tropical cyclones expectedto enter PAR in July this year

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and
Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has
warned that three to four tropical cyclones may enter or
develop within the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR)
in July 2023.

PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said that
the potential cyclones may make landfall in mainland
Luzon and Eastern Visayas. They may also enhance the
southwest monsoon or habagat.
“We are still monitoring the formation of these cyclones,”
Estareja said. “We will issue advisories as soon as they
enter PAR.”
The average number of tropical cyclones that enter or
develop within PAR is 20 per year. However, the
number of cyclones can vary from year to year.
In 2022, a total of 22 tropical cyclones entered or
developed within PAR. Of these, 11 made landfall in the
Philippines.
PAGASA advised the public to be prepared for the
possibility of tropical cyclones in July. They should
monitor weather updates and follow the instructions of
local authorities.
