Chatto congratulates KASAMA on first anniversary, urges public to help preserve traditional salt making

Bohol Representative Edgar M. Chatto congratulated the Kapunungan Sa Mang Asinay sa Albur (KASAMA) on the occasion of their first anniversary on July 3, 2023.

KASAMA is a cooperative of salt farmers in Albur, Bohol, who are dedicated to preserving the traditional method of producing “asin tibuok,” a type of salt that is made using seawater and fire.

“I commend KASAMA for their efforts to preserve this important traditional knowledge,” said Chatto.

“Asin tibuok is a unique and valuable product that is part of our Bohol heritage. We must do everything we can to ensure that it continues to be made and enjoyed by future generations.”

KASAMA was recently awarded a grant from the Endangered Material Knowledge Program (EMKP) of the British Museum in London and the National Museum in Bohol.

The grant will help KASAMA to improve their production methods and to promote asin tibuok to a wider audience.

“This grant is a great boost for KASAMA,” said Chatto. “It will help them to continue their important work of preserving this traditional knowledge and to make asin tibuok more accessible to people all over the world.”

Chatto urged the public to support KASAMA and to help preserve the traditional method of producing asin tibuok.

“This is a product that is worth saving,” the Boholano lawmaker said. “It is a part of our Bohol heritage, and it is a delicious and healthy way to add flavor to our food.”
