Firearm seized as army encounters remnants of NPA terrorists in Bilar, Bohol

The Philippine Army’s Task Group Bohol, together with the 47th Infantry (Katapatan) Battalion, encountered remnants of the New People’s Army (NPA’s) Bohol Party Committee in the hinterland Sitios of Barangay Dagohoy, Bilar, Bohol on Saturday, July 8, 2023.

The troops were conducting peace and security operations in response to the reported presence of NPA terrorists in the area.

The encounter occurred at around 2 p.m. and lasted for about 10 minutes.

No casualties were reported on the government side, while enemy casualties remain undetermined.

Recovered from the encounter site were one Cal. 45 Pistol, ammunition, medical paraphernalia, food packs, personal belongings, and subversive documents.

The successful operation demonstrates the unwavering commitment of government forces to maintaining Bohol’s insurgency-free status, the Army said.

“With the support of the LGUs and the Boholanos, rest assured that we will continue to perform our mandate of serving and securing the province and its people at all times,” said 47IB Commanding Officer LTC Magno Mapalad III.

The Army’s efforts contribute to ongoing peace initiatives and prevent any attempts by the NPAs to regain a foothold in Bohol, Mapalad said.

The operation also helps safeguard local communities from threats posed by other lawless elements, the army commanding officer added.
