Quezon City, Philippines – Congressman Edgar Chatto has expressed his support for the legislative priorities outlined by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 24, 2023.
In a statement, Chatto said he was “happy” that many of his expectations on the administration’s efforts had been mentioned in the SONA, specifically on health, education, tourism, infrastructure, peace and order, national security, economic reforms, disaster resilience, and climate change.
“The President repeated his commitment to climate change and emphasized that it is now an important criterion in national policies, in planning, decision-making, up to the implementation of programs,” Chatto said. “I am confident that the administration will continue to work on addressing this important issue.”
Chatto also welcomed the President’s new legislative priorities, which include tax reform under the Medium-Term Fiscal Framework, amendments to various laws, and the creation of a new law on the Blue Economy.
“The House of Representatives, under the leadership of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, remains an active partner of the President,” Chatto said. “We are ready to work on these new legislative priorities and ensure that they are passed into law.”
Chatto is a member of the House Committee on Climate Change and has been a vocal advocate for climate action. He is also the author of the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, which has helped to promote the development of renewable energy in the Philippines.
In his SONA, President Marcos Jr. highlighted the gains of his one-year old administration, particularly in the areas of health, education, and infrastructure. He also acknowledged the challenges faced by the country, such as inflation, unemployment, and the economy.
The President vowed to continue working on these challenges and to build a “better future for all Filipinos.”
Congressman Chatto said he is confident that the President will be able to deliver on his promises and that the Philippines will continue to progress under his leadership.
