Baclayon woman apologizes forfalse Facebook robbery claim

A woman from Baclayon, Bohol has apologized for
falsely claiming that she was robbed after
withdrawing money at an ATM in Tagbilaran City.
Elma Panongcoy, 30, posted on Facebook on
Friday that she was robbed of P30,000 by a man
who pointed a knife at her. She also shared a
photo of her torn bag and a scratch on her side,
which she said were caused by the robber.
However, police investigators later determined that
Panongcoy’s claim was false. CCTV footage from
the area showed that she was not robbed.
In a statement, Panongcoy said that she made up
the story because she was facing financial
problems.
She said that she was “desperate” and “didn’t
know what else to do.”
Panongcoy apologized to the public for her false
claim and said that she would “never do anything
like this again.”
The Tagbilaran City Police Station is still
investigating the case.
City Police: False Robbery Claims a Serious Crime

The Tagbilaran City Police Station has warned the
public against making false robbery claims.
Police said that such claims are a serious crime
and that those who are caught making them will be
prosecuted.
“We are urging the public to be responsible in their
social media posts,” the City PNP said. “Making
false robbery claims can put people’s lives in
danger.”
Police investigators have already identified the
person who posted the false robbery claim on
Facebook. The person has been invited for
questioning and could face charges of perjury and
false information.
“We are confident that this partnership will be
successful,” said Governor Aumentado. “Together,
we can create a better future for the people of
Bohol.”
The development of the Old Airport is part of the
PGBh’s Strategic Change Agenda, which aims to
make Bohol a more prosperous and livable
province. The project is expected to create jobs,
boost the local economy, and attract more tourists
to the province.
