Tagbilaran City holds culmination program for the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week observance

The City Government of Tagbilaran successfully organized the culmination program for the observance of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.

The culmination activity was held at Jj’s Seafood Village on July 21, 2023.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap, who graced the occasion,  expressed her heartfelt support and commitment to championing inclusivity and empowerment for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Mayor Yap said: “We are continuously creating initiatives and programs to ensure that PWDs can actively participate in all aspects of life and contribute to the city’s progress and development. I commend the efforts of the Persons with Disability Affairs Office headed by Ms. Cleofe Polestico, the Association of Person with Disability Workers in Tagbilaran City led by its President Ms. Lorna Cañete and the stakeholders who work tirelessly to promote the rights and welfare of PWDs, making Tagbilaran City a place where diversity is celebrated, and everyone is valued.”

The culmination program was an occasion that featured inspiring speeches and activities aimed at uplifting the spirit and morale of PWDs and promoting their rights and opportunities.

Aside from Mayor Yap,  other speakers during the program included City Councilor Gemma Inting, Chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod [SP] Committee on Social Services; City Social Welfare and Development Officer Lucille Clarin; Alvin Acuzar, Head of the Barangay Affairs and Constituency Unit; and Jeffrey Real, Chief Occupational Therapist of the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center Rehabilitation Department.

During the event, various activities were also organized to showcase the talents and capabilities of PWDs.

Their performances and presentations highlighted their creativity, artistry and contribution to the community.

The National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, celebrated annually from July 17 to 23, aims to create a platform for advocacy, awareness, and understanding of the challenges faced by PWDs.

This year’s theme, “Person with Disabilities Accessibility and Rights: Towards a Sustainable Future where No One is Left Behind” emphasized the importance of creating a more inclusive society where differently abled people are free to fully participate in all aspects of life. It also aims to improve the quality of life for differently abled people by ensuring that they have access to the necessary resources and support.

Angilou Dalogdog of PMI Boxing Stable won the WBF Asia Pacific flyweight title

The fight, which was the main event of Kumong Bol-Anon 11, was a close one throughout. Dalogdog, who is from Tagbilaran City, started strong and was able to land some good punches in the early rounds. However, Hu, who is the current WBO Chinese flyweight champion, came on strong in the middle rounds and took the lead on the judges’ scorecards.

In the final round, Dalogdog came out swinging and was able to land some big punches that hurt Hu. The Chinese boxer was able to survive the round, but he was clearly exhausted.

The judges scored the fight 96-94, 95-95, and 97-93 in favor of Dalogdog.

With the win, Dalogdog improves to 8-0 with 2 knockouts. He is now the new WBF Asia Pacific flyweight champion.

Hu falls to 6-2 with 2 knockouts.

Dalogdog’s victory is a major upset. Hu was the more experienced boxer and was the clear favorite coming into the fight. However, Dalogdog showed that he has the skills and the heart to be a champion.
