Bohol pushes for innovative renewable energy ordinance

The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) is working on a draft ordinance that would promote the use of innovative renewable energy (RE) sources in the province.

The Technical Working Group (TWG) for the proposed ordinance, led by Governor Aris Aumentado and Board Member Jiselle Rae Aumentado-Villamor, met on August 14, 2023, at the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) Conference Room to review and revise some sections of the draft.

The draft ordinance aims to adopt nature-based solutions for sustainable and efficient power generation in Bohol, as part of the Strategic Change Agenda of the PGBh.

It also seeks to establish the Bohol Renewable Energy Local Board, which would oversee and regulate the RE projects in the province, and provide incentives for RE developers and investors.

The TWG members, composed of representatives from various sectors and agencies, are scheduled to convene again to finalize the draft ordinance and prepare it for its first reading at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).

The PGBh hopes that the ordinance would help boost the province’s energy security, reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, and mitigate its environmental impact.
