DENR-PAMB under fire for grantingpermit to resort in Sagbayan, Bohol

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Protected Area
Management Board (DENR-PAMB) is facing criticism for issuing a permit to
Captain’s Peak Resort in Sagbayan Bohol, which allegedly damaged the natural
landscape of the area.
The resort, which is located on top of a hill in Sagbayan, was found to have violated
the environmental laws and regulations by the committee on environment of the
Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) in Bohol led by Board Member (BM) Villamor Jamie
Aumentado.

Aumentado, who was interviewed by Kwentas Klaras this morning, said that the
development of the resort only affected 20% of the size of the hill, but the DENR-
PAMB could not provide any concrete data on how much the scale of the mountain
was affected.
“We can’t determine how much 20% is because they don’t have a measure. They
just estimate”, said Aumentado.
She added that the SP wants to establish clear criteria and standards for the
protection and conservation of the natural resources in Bohol. She said that they will
present their findings and recommendations to the DENR-PAMB and urge them to
review and revoke the permit given to the resort.
She also plans to push an ordinance regarding this issue in the SP to prevent similar
cases from happening in the future.
The DENR-PAMB has not yet issued any statement regarding this matter.
