Tagbilaran City commemoratesCapt. Salazar’s Day and 81st Anniversary of the Battle of Ubujan 

To commemorate a significant moment in Tagbilaran’s history, an assembly of government officials, veterans, and students took place on Oct. 23, 2023 to mark the 81st anniversary of the Battle of Ubujan and Captain Francisco Salazar’s Day.

This significant event was done at the Captain Salazar Monument in barangay Ubujan, Tagbilaran City. 

It featured ceremonies that paid homage to the valor and sacrifices of our local heroes led by Captain Salazar.

The event commenced with a solemn Holy Mass, setting the tone for a day of reflection and remembrance. 

This was followed by a wreath-laying and floral offering activity, where dignitaries and representatives from various organizations paid their respects to Captain Francisco Salazar and the heroes of the Battle of Ubujan.

The commemorative program was graced by City Mayor Jane Yap, P/Lt. Col. Dexter Calacar of Camp Dagohoy, Major Harold Ambrocio of Camp Bernido, Ubujan Barangay Captain and Tagbilaran Liga ng mga Barangay President Mary Jane Ruiz, District and Post Presidents of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines (VFP)-Bohol, and the VFP Sons and Daughters Association, Inc.

Notably, the event attracted the participation of student leaders from State Universities and Colleges in Tagbilaran City, including the teaching staff, and pupils from Ubujan Elementary School. 

The Sangguniang Barangay and employees of Barangay Ubujan, the ROTC Cadets from the Bohol Institute of Technology and reservists, also joined in paying tribute to the heroism displayed during the Battle of Ubujan.

Mayor Yap conveyed her heartfelt sentiments and said: “The Battle of Ubujan and Captain Salazar’s Day is a reminder of the heroism displayed by our forefathers. This day symbolizes our shared history, our unity, and the enduring spirit that has carried Tagbilaran City forward. It is with great pride that we honor these heroes today and remember their sacrifices for our freedom.” 

As a fitting conclusion to the commemoration, the City Government of Tagbilaran extended its commitment to the community by conducting a free mobile services program. 

The program offered various essential services, including healthcare, dental care, legal consultations, civil registrar services, and grooming services. 

This initiative underscored the city’s dedication to enhancing the well-being of its residents and continuing its service to the community in various ways.
