Tagbilaran City honors senior citizens during National Elderly Week
The City Government of Tagbilaran, led by Mayor Jane Yap, celebrated the culmination activity of the National Elderly Filipino Week on November 7, 2023, at the Saulog Gym.
This year’s theme, “Honoring the Invaluable Legacy of the Filipino Senior Citizens,” aimed to recognize and appreciate the significant contributions of the elderly to the community.
The culmination event showcased the remarkable talents of senior citizens from different barangay senior citizens’ associations in Tagbilaran City.
Dance performances, songs, and various talents were presented, demonstrating the vibrance
and creativity of the elderly population.
Mayor Jane Yap delivered a heartfelt message, emphasizing the importance of honoring and respecting the invaluable legacy of senior citizens in the city.
“Today, we stand before the living treasures of our city, our beloved senior citizens. We owe our gratitude to their enduring legacy, and it’s our privilege to celebrate their remarkable lives and stories. Let us continue to honor and respect them, ensuring their golden years are filled with the love and care they truly deserve,” Mayor Yap said.
The City Government of Tagbilaran has been consistently extending its support to the senior citizens by offering a range of services, which includes free medical and dental care, complimentary laboratory tests and medicines, birthday cakes and cash gifts.
The city has also been granting free movie passes, and financial assistance to the senior citizens.
Other notable speakers during the culmination activity included Mrs. Esperanza Bruñidor, President of the Tagbilaran City Federated Senior Citizens’ Associations of the Philippines and Mr. Alvin Luis Acuzar of the Barangay Affairs and Constituency Unit.
Mr. Rey Delos Santos, the City Nutrition Officer, also delivered an informative talk about the essential aspects of nutrition for the elderly.
The culmination program was a heartfelt tribute to the senior citizens of Tagbilaran, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to supporting and cherishing the elderly who have contributed a lot to the development of the city.
