LGU Tagbilaran kicks off children’s month celebration

The Tagbilaran City Hall came alive with youthful exuberance with the official opening of the
National Children’s Month celebration on November 6, 2023 spearheaded by the City Social
Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
This year’s celebration with the theme, “Healthy, nourished, sheltered: Ensuring the right to
life for all”, commenced with the Day Care pupils of the city leading the Monday flag-raising
ceremony and mass recitation of the Panatang Makabata.
A colorful motorcade followed, where children, Day Care workers, parents, and City Social
Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) staff paraded on the roads from the City Hall to
Calceta St. turning left to Pres. Carlos P. Garcia Avenue proceeding to Plaza Rizal then to
J.A. Clarin St. and Tagbilaran City Central Public Market and finally, back to the event
venue.
The celebration reached its height with a Holy Mass and a short program held at the City
Hall atrium. There were various performances that showcased the children’s talents and
promoted their well-being.
In her message during the activity, City Mayor Jane Yap emphasized the significance of
Children’s Month and the city’s dedication to the welfare of its youngest residents.

She said, “Our children are the promise of our future, and it is our duty to provide them with
the best opportunities to grow, learn, and succeed. This month, we celebrate the boundless
potential of our children as Tagbilaran City remains to be a child friendly city where children
can freely nurture their creativity and talents.”
Other activities lined up by the city government this month for the children’s month
celebration include the distribution of educational toys to all Day Care pupils; information
dissemination on the rights and responsibilities of a child on all public elementary schools in
Tagbilaran City; and seminars on mental health awareness, teenage pregnancy and sex
education for Grade 12 students of Tagbilaran City Science High School and Dr. Cecilio
Putong National High School.
In partnership with the Philippine Dental Association, there will also be dental care sessions
and distribution of dental kit consisting of toothbrush and toothpaste to all pupils of the 35
Day Care Centers in the city. CSWDO will also conduct Kumustahan sessions with Children
in Conflict with the Law.
The Children’s Month Culmination activity will be held on November 24, 2023 that will
highlight Mayor Yap’s State of the Children’s Report.
