New Tagbilaran Barangay, SK Officials take oath

The newly barangay officials of Tagbilaran City, elected in the recently concluded Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections, took their oath in a  ceremony on November 13, 2023 at the Bohol Tropics Resort.

The winning barangay captains and councilors, and SK chairpersons and SK councilors took their oath of office before Mayor Jane Yap which marked the beginning of their term in public service.

The occasion was attended by Vice Mayor Adam Jala, members of the 15th Sangguniang Panlungsod, Chief of Staff John Geesnell Yap II, Department of the Interior and Local Government City Local Government Operations Officer Juliet Olalo, and the families of the barangay and SK officials, who witnessed the commitment of the elected officials to serve their barangays and the youth sector with dedication and integrity.

During the ceremony, Mayor Yap underscored the crucial role of barangay officials and SK leaders at the grassroots level. She encouraged them to unite their efforts for the well-being and progress of their communities, emphasizing the significance of good governance, transparency, and community engagement.

She also reassured them of her unwavering commitment to the progress of the barangays, stating, “As your city mayor, along with Vice Mayor Adam Jala and the entire city government, we stand united with you. We are here not just to assist but to wholeheartedly support you.  Your triumphs are integral to our shared success. Let’s collaborate closely to transform every barangay in Tagbilaran into a symbol of innovation and triumph.”

The oath-taking ceremony signifies the formal commencement of the officials’ responsibilities and the beginning of their journey in contributing to the progress and well-being of Tagbilaran City.

Tagbilaran City launches Barangay Diabetes Clinics

In a proactive move to address the rising health concerns related to diabetes, Tagbilaran City, under the leadership of Mayor Jane Yap, inaugurated the first-of-its-kind Barangay Diabetes Clinics in a ceremony held at JJ’s Seafood Village on November 14, 2023.

The launching was highlighted by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the City Government of Tagbilaran and the Diabetes Philippines, Bohol Chapter.

Mayor Jane Yap, emphasizing the city’s commitment to health and well-being, led the signing ceremony.

The Barangay Diabetes Clinics initiative aims to provide comprehensive health services for diabetic patients, reinforcing the city’s dedication to proactive and accessible healthcare.

The services offered at the clinics include free random blood testing during every checkup and follow-up, free cardiac panels, free HbA1c tests, free medicines, and free health education.

These clinics are strategically placed within the barangays’ health stations to ensure accessibility and convenience for the residents.

City Health Officer Dr. Jeia Pondoc spearheaded this initiative, working in collaboration with the Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility team.

The project is also conducted in partnership with the Diabetes Philippines Bohol Chapter, led by its incumbent President, Dr. Mardy Fortich, and immediate past President, Dr. Lalaine Delos Santos.

Mayor Jane Yap expressed her enthusiasm for this essential healthcare initiative, stating, “Our goal is to empower individuals with diabetes to manage their health effectively. These clinics are a testament to our commitment to providing accessible and quality healthcare services to all residents.”

The Barangay Diabetes Clinics stand as a testament to Tagbilaran City’s continuous efforts to promote community health and well-being, aligning with global health goals and ensuring that the citizens have the necessary tools to lead healthier lives.
