VICTORIANO MARTIN TIROL IV
Among the standout performers in the juniors division of the on-going University
Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 86 swim championship at
Rizal Memorial Sports Complex is Victoriano Martin ‘Renzo’ Tirol IV, a Grade 12
student of the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Senior High School.
As of press time, Tirol clinched the gold medal in the 50-meter breaststroke event
with a time of 30.83 seconds, beating his closest rival by 0.36 seconds. He won
another gold medal in the 100 meter breaststroke by clocking a time of 1:08.70
seconds beating his closest rival who clocked 1:09.65.
Tirol, who is the younger brother of ADMU swim team captain Rian Marco Tirol,
started swimming at the age of seven, said that he is inspired by his brother and his
coaches to excel in the sport.
“I look up to my brother because he is a great swimmer and a leader. He always
motivates me and gives me tips on how to improve. I also appreciate my coaches
who train me hard and teach me the proper techniques and strategies,” he said in an
interview.
Tirol is not only a talented swimmer, but also a diligent student. He is currently
enrolled in the General Academic (GA) strand of the ADMU Senior High School,
where he maintains a high academic standing. He said that he balances his time
between his studies and his training by being focused and organized.
“I have a schedule that I follow every day. I make sure that I finish my homework and
projects before I go to training. I also study in advance for my exams and quizzes. I
also have the support of my family, friends, teachers, and classmates who help me
along the way,” he said.
Tirol is aiming to follow his brother’s footsteps and join the ADMU swim team in
college. He is also hopeful that he can represent the country in international
competitions someday.
“I want to continue swimming for Ateneo and to contribute to the team’s success. I
also want to qualify for the national team and to compete in the SEA Games and the
Asian Games. I want to make my country proud and to show the world what Filipino
swimmers can do,” he said.
