LGU Tagbilaran spearheads  symposium to fight violence against women and children

In a proactive effort to address and combat violence against women and children, the City Government of Tagbilaran organized a symposium on December 20, 2023 held at JJ’s Seafood Village, Tagbilaran City.

The event brought together 100 employees from different city government departments and offices, marking a significant step towards raising awareness and fostering positive change in the community.

The Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Symposium aimed to create a platform for dialogue, education, and reflection on the critical issues affecting women and children.

Resource speakers were:  Atty. Jonel Torregosa, who spoke on cyber violence against women, and Master Sullivan Jayme Grandeza, who discussed Basic Self Defense. Both brought their expertise and insights on matters regarding VAWC.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap, a staunch advocate for women’s rights, expressed the importance of such initiatives, stating, “This symposium underscores our commitment to promoting a safe and supportive environment for everyone in Tagbilaran City. By bringing together employees from different departments and featuring expert speakers, we aim to collectively raise awareness and inspire positive changes in our community.”

Aside from the good speakers,  the event also  featured interactive discussions, and educational sessions designed to equip participants with knowledge and tools to contribute to the prevention of violence against women and children.

By fostering an environment of open communication and shared responsibility, Tagbilaran City endeavors to create lasting change within its community.

The event also symbolizes a collaborative and community-driven approach to addressing societal issues.

Tagbilaran City’s commitment to raising awareness and promoting positive change reflects a dedication to bringing a safer, more supportive environment for everyone, particularly women and children, within the city.

Tagbilaran City Friendship building inaugurated

Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap and Vice Mayor Adam Relson Jala (seated 4th and 5th from left, respectively) spearheaded the inauguration of the Tagbilaran City Friendship Building, a hub of art, livelihood, and cultural affairs, together with some of the City Government employees at the Tagbilaran City Friendship Park, barangay Bool, this city, on December 22, 2023.

The Tagbilaran City Friendship building, a hub of art, livelihood, and cultural affairs located at the Tagbilaran City Friendship Park at barangay Bool, was inaugurated during a simple ceremony on December 22, 2023.

Led by City Mayor Jane Yap, the event marked the inauguration of a vibrant community space designed to foster connections and enrich the cultural fabric of the city.

The newly blessed Friendship Building boasts of three (3) key components that contribute to its multifaceted role in the community.  

The building features an Artworks Gallery showcasing the creativity and talent of local artists. 

It also has a Livelihood Showroom where products, crafts and souvenir items of the City Livelihood and Development Unit can be displayed.  

In addition to this, the building houses an office space dedicated to the City Events, Culture, and Arts.

This serves as a central hub for the planning and organizing of cultural events at the Tagbilaran City Friendship Park. 

Mayor Jane Yap, with City Government officials, department heads, Bool Barangay officials, members of the city council for culture and arts, and the city tourism office, led the ceremony. 

The collective efforts of these individuals highlight the collaborative spirit that defines Tagbilaran City’s commitment to community development.

Mayor Yap expressed her gratitude for the shared vision, stating, “The Friendship Building is a testament to our commitment to community growth and cultural enrichment. It is a space that embodies the spirit of connection and collaboration, and I am excited to see the positive impact it will have on our community.”

The building’s inauguration symbolizes Tagbilaran City’s dedication to creating spaces that not only celebrate local culture and artistry but also contribute to the economic empowerment of its residents.
