A joint team of police officers from the Municipal Police Stations of Dauis and Panglao arrested on December 28, 2023 a Danish national who was earlier convicted of sexual abuse of minors. Lars Flemming Heding Nielsen was arrested by police officers pursuant to a warrant of arrest dated December 27, 2023 issued by the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 3 in Tagbilaran City Nielsen was found guilty by Judge Leo Moises Lison of the Regional Trial Court Branch 3 in Tagbilaran City on December 19, 2023, of seven counts of acts of lasciviousness for the sexual abuse of two minors from 2014 to 2015 in a resort in Panglao, Bohol.After the promulgation of judgment, the Court cancelled Nielsen’s bail, even while his counsel filed a motion to post bail pending appeal, since bail is no longer a matter of right in the Court of Appeals.Moreover, Nielsen was meted a penalty of eight years and one day as minimum to 17 years, four months, and one day as maximum.The court also ordered Nielsen to pay each victim P50,000 in civil indemnity and P50,000 in moral damages.The court was able to determine that the victims provided detailed accounts of the acts committed against them by the Danish national. Private prosecutor Atty Esther Gertrude Biliran assisted the minors.
