Former seaman arrested for carrying sharp weapon and attempting arson

A 57-year-old former seaman was arrested by the Duero police for carrying a sharp weapon and allegedly trying to set fire to his family’s shop in Barangay Alejawan, Duero, Bohol.

The suspect was identified as Rodulfo Oyales, a resident of the same barangay.

Police said they received a call from a barangay officer in Alijawan at around 8 p.m. on Monday, January 15, 2024, reporting that a drunk man was wielding a weapon on the national road.

When the police arrived, they quickly subdued the suspect and seized a 23-inch baton knife from him.

According to the police investigation, the suspect had a heated argument with his wife, son and nephew earlier that day. During the altercation, he allegedly tried to burn down their shop.

The suspect is now in the custody of the Duero police and is facing charges of illegal possession of a bladed weapon under Republic Act No. 6 and attempted arson.
