CONG. EDGAR M. CHATTO
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has approved the Student Monetary Assistance for Recovery and Transition (SMART) Grant for 63 students in the First District of Bohol.
The SMART Grant is a one-time financial assistance of P25,000 for qualified students enrolled in any undergraduate program for the school year 2023-2024.
It aims to help students cope with the challenges brought by the COVID pandemic and continue their education.
The program is implemented in partnership with the office of Bohol First District Rep. Edgar Chatto, who assisted the applicants in meeting the requirements set by CHED.
The applicants underwent a validation and verification process before being selected as beneficiaries.
To qualify for the SMART Grant, the applicants must be Filipino citizens, have a combined household income of not more than P400,000, be enrolled in any first undergraduate course for the first semester of academic year 2023-2024, and not be recipients of any other national government funded scholarship or educational grant except the Free Higher Education program.
The grant will be released next week, according to CHED.
Chatto thanked CHED for collaborating with his office in the implementation of the program that will benefit underprivileged students.
He also noted his other education initiatives, such as scholarships, school buildings construction, capacity building, the establishment of the Bohol Island State University and its school of medicine, which are geared towards the province’s sustainable growth and development.
