LGU Tagbilaran boosts learners’ morale with uniforms, SRA materials
In a move to support education, the Tagbilaran City Government, led by Mayor Jane Yap, conducted a meaningful ceremony on January 10, 2024, at the Cabawan Elementary School for the distribution of uniforms to elementary students and for the turnover of Science Reading Associate (SRA) Laboratory learning materials to the Department of Education (DepEd) Tagbilaran City Schools Division.
Dr. Wilfreda Bongalos, the Schools Division Superintendent of the City Schools Division of Tagbilaran City, along with school principals and DepEd personnel, officially received these valuable resources.
During the distribution of uniforms, Mayor Yap emphasized the importance of this endeavor, stating, “Ensuring that our students have proper uniforms not only promotes a sense of identity and belonging but also removes potential barriers to their education. We believe that this simple gesture contributes to a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere.”
Simultaneously, the turnover of SRA Laboratory learning materials, funded under the Tagbilaran City Special Education Fund, signifies the city’s commitment to advancing science education.
The SRA Learning materials will be distributed to the Taloto Elementary School and Dampas Elementary School to aid challenges faced by non-reader students, extending the impact of the initiative to schools where additional support is needed.
Furthermore, a scheduled distribution of uniforms will take place across all public elementary schools in the city, guaranteeing that over 10,000 students will benefit from this essential provision.
Mayor Yap believes that education stands as a cornerstone of community development. She further emphasized that by investing in resources and support for students, they are directly investing in the future of Tagbilaran City.
The ceremony not only symbolized the tangible support provided to students but also reflected the ongoing commitment of the City Government of Tagbilaran to prioritize education and empower the younger generation for a brighter future.

Tagbilaran City conducts Solid Waste Management training
LGU Tagbilaran takes a proactive step towards effective waste management
by conducting the enforcers’ training on the subject matter:
Solid Waste Management (SWM), that took place on January 18-19, 2024, at JJ’s Seafood Village.
The comprehensive training organized by the Tagbilaran City Environmental Management Office headed by Engr. Raul Aparicio II, aimed to equip the city and barangay SWM enforcers with the knowledge and skills necessary for the proper implementation of waste management policies in accordance with national laws and city ordinance.
A significant component of the event included a deputization ceremony for the SWM enforcers and the turnover of SWM citation tickets.
City Mayor Jane Yap emphasized the pivotal role of effective waste management in creating a cleaner and healthier environment for the residents of Tagbilaran City.
“Our commitment to proper waste management is integral to the development of Tagbilaran City. The training of SWM enforcers is a strategic step towards ensuring that our city remains a place of pride for all its residents. We are grateful for the dedication of our environmental management team and the SWM enforcers who play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness of Tagbilaran,” Mayor Yap stated.
The training covered crucial topics to enhance the enforcers’ understanding of waste management protocol.
These included an orientation on RA 9003, also known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau Region 7.
Mr. Joselito Taladua, the City SWM Focal Person, provided insights into City Ordinance No. 292-2020, ensuring that enforcers are well-versed on local regulations.
The Tagbilaran City Police Station contributed expertise on arrest techniques, emphasizing the importance of lawful procedures in enforcement activities.
Ms. Teofila Tayona from the City Planning and Development Office presented an orientation on the City’s 10-year SWM Plan, aligning enforcers with the broader vision for sustainable waste management in Tagbilaran.
The training also included practical elements, with a workshop focusing on the development of barangay-level SWM plans.
Participants had the opportunity to present their plans, fostering collaboration and shared insights among enforcers.
As a tangible resource for ongoing reference, booklets on RA 9003 were distributed to all participants, ensuring that enforcers have access to essential information in the field.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among SWM enforcers, ready to contribute to the city’s waste management goals.
