By GLORIA LEODIVICA ARANETA

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tagbilaran, in a turnover ceremony held at the city hall atrium, received a grant of 5.8 million pesos from the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.

This substantial financial assistance, a boon for the city’s workforce, will benefit a total of 1,248 individuals from Tagbilaran City.

The ceremony was a momentous occasion, symbolizing the commitment of both the national and local government to support workers affected by displacement.

The collaborative efforts of Senators Loren Legarda, Lito Lapid, and Bong Revilla played a pivotal role in securing this vital assistance for the residents of Tagbilaran. Mayor Jane Yap expressed her gratitude, stating, “The LGU of Tagbilaran is deeply appreciative of the support provided by DOLE and Senators Legarda, Lapid and Revilla. This financial injection will significantly alleviate the challenges faced by our fellow Tagbilaranons.”

According to reports from the mayor’s office, the TUPAD program aims to provide emergency employment for displaced workers, offering them temporary income opportunities while contributing to community development projects.

The grant will enable the LGU to implement projects that benefit both the workers and the local community.

The turnover ceremony featured key officials, including representatives from DOLE and members of the City Government of Tagbilaran.

The symbolic handover of the grant highlighted the tangible impact of government collaboration in addressing the economic challenges faced by displaced workers.

LGU Tagbilaran extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Senators and DOLE for their dedication to the welfare of Filipino workers and communities.
