Tagbilaran City launches National Arts Month 2024 with dance contest

Under the dynamic leadership of Mayor Jane Yap and Vice Mayor Adam Jala, Tagbilaran City officially inaugurated the National Arts Month 2024 with the Sabay Turismo Modern Dance Competition held at the Island City Mall Activity Center on February 1, 2024.

The event, organized by the City Events, Culture and Arts Office, featured talented participants from various schools which showcased their artistic abilities, interpreting the theme of cultural and tourism appreciation in innovative dance choreography.

In a closely contested competition, Holy Name University emerged as the champion, followed by Manga National High School securing the 2nd place, Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School clinching the 3rd place, and Great Minds Leadership Academy earning the 4th place.

The judging panel consisted of esteemed individuals in the field of arts and culture: Nila Itac, Fiel Angelie Gabin, and Kate Llanit.

Expressing her delight at the event’s success, Mayor Yap said in her message: “The National Arts Month is a celebration of our rich cultural tapestry and the creative spirit that defines Tagbilaran City. The Sabay Turismo dance competition showcases the incredible talent within our community.”

The National Arts Month celebration in Tagbilaran City continues with another exciting event on the horizon.

The Choir Festival is set to entertain audiences on February 17, 2024, at the Bohol Quality Activity Center, promising a harmonious musical experience by local chorale groups.

Bannering the theme “Ani ng Sining, Bayang Malikhain,” the National Arts Month 2024 aims to outline the notion that the bountiful harvest of a Filipino creative nation is derived from collective human imagination, not just individual aspirations.

As the city unfolds a series of artistic and cultural festivities, the National Arts Month 2024 celebration in Tagbilaran City stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to nurturing and promoting the arts as a vital aspect of community identity and pride.

On February 1, 2024, the TAGUBILAAN Cultural Performing Arts Group of Tagbilaran City College (TCC) showcased an impressive cultural dance number at the Island City Mall this city.
The event was part of the grand launch of National Arts Month 2024, an initiative by the Yap-Jala administration to celebrate and promote the vibrant Arts and Cultural aspect of the city.

Mayor Yap leads opening of classes at DCPNHS SHS with free support services  

In a heartwarming display of support for students embarking on a new academic journey, the City Government of Tagbilaran, under the leadership of Mayor Jane Yap, provided a seamless and uplifting start on the first day of classes at Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School Senior High School (DCPNHS SHS) at barangay Cabawan.

The opening day on February 1, 2024, marked –  not only the commencement of the academic year – but also the operational debut of the impressive 32-classroom DCPNHS SHS building.

City Mayor Jane Yap personally joined the momentous occasion, standing alongside personnel from the Department of Education, City Schools Division, to welcome and witness the beginning of classes at DCPNHS SHS.

Understanding the potential challenges of the first day of classes in a new venue, the City Government of Tagbilaran took proactive measures to ease the transition for students with the free bus rides provided in the morning and afternoon throughout the entire month of February 2024. This privilege  ensures a convenient form of transportation to and from DCPNHS SHS for all students.

This initiative aims to alleviate transportation concerns and create a smooth transition into the academic year.

To further support the students, the City Government collaborated with DIWA Partylist to offer free meals during the opening of classes. The provision of hot meals is a thoughtful gesture, adding a touch of warmth and nourishment to the students’ first day in their new academic setting.

In partnership with the Bureau of Fire Tagbilaran and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, truckloads of potable water were dispatched to DCPNHS SHS. These collaborative efforts ensured access to clean water for the students throughout the day, enhancing their overall well-being and comfort.

Mayor Yap expressed her enthusiasm for a positive start in the academic year, saying, “The first day of school is a significant milestone for our students. We want to ensure that it is not just an educational experience but a positive and memorable one. The support we provide today sets the tone for a successful academic journey.”

As the DCPNHS SHS building in barangay Cabawan begins its operations, the City Government’s comprehensive assistance underscores its dedication to fostering an environment where students can thrive academically and feel supported on their educational journey.
