” A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM “
Waking up to a reality where conditions are ripe for a utopian -type society is much desired. As Boholanos have long suffered from the high prices of fish and basic staple, it is everyone’s wish that their daily keep can tide them over.
But unfortunately it is not what it should be. Average daily earnings of the working class are not enough to buy a kilo of fish, much more, rice and other basic stuff.
The new stewards at the capitol have miserably failed to live up to our people’s expectations. Many are fuming mad at broken promises and shattered realities.
Have you ever felt deceived and lied to? When we took the bait, hook, line and sinker, we wanted a better life. We were carried away by glib rhetoric and clever propaganda that made us want change so badly.
But good governance is not only just about corruption and making one look better than the other. It is also about providing better opportunities for the greater number of our people.
Boholanos cannot live on bread alone. We need fish , poultry, meat and others too. Yet two years into this new management, how do most of us feel? Have our lives been made better? Are we happier now than we were before?
With elections coming soon, most everyone will be in a frenzy. Politicians will be at their very best to lure us over.
Yet this early, we have seen infighting within their ranks. The desire to protect their individual interests has led to conflicts among them. Amid this clash, our people always end up losing.
Already deprived of basic services and a shot at a better life , the leadership’s disarray has kept a majority of us wanting.
The poor have remained poor and except for a privileged few who are better “sycophants” than the rest of us, nothing much has changed in our lives. Boholanos have been dreaming for better economic opportunities.
Yet our best wishes and aspirations have remained just that. A dream that we take comfort in our sleep that by far has eluded us.
With 2025 just around the corner, It’s time to wake up from our deep slumber. We need to act to make our nightmares go away!
