BLCI attributed the successive decrease in power rates to the lower generation charges of power producers, and the lower spot market prices.
The company said that the generation charge, which accounts for more than half of the total power bill, dropped by P2.67/kwh in February, due to the improved supply situation and the reduced demand in the Luzon grid.
The spot market price, which reflects the cost of electricity traded in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), also decreased by P0.19/kwh, as a result of the lower system peak demand and the higher availability of power plants.
BLCI also claimed that its implemented electric rates are among the lowest in the Visayas and even in Mindanao, compared to other electric cooperatives and power distribution utilities.
Despite the drop in the price of electricity, BLCI urged its consumers to continue practicing energy efficiency and conservation measures, to further reduce their consumption and save money.
BLCI is the sole power distributor in Tagbilaran City, serving more than 30,000 consumers.
