Tagbilaran City holds choir festival in celebration of National Arts Month 2024

The harmonious melody of choirs filled the air during the Choir Festival held on February 17, 2024 at the Bohol Quality Activity Center. 

The event, a highlight of the National Arts Month 2024 celebration, was organized by the City Government of Tagbilaran in collaboration with the City Council for Culture and the Arts and the City Events, Culture, and Arts Office.

The event showcased the musical prowess of 10 local choirs, each delivering captivating performances that reflected the rich cultural tapestry of Tagbilaran. 

The participating choirs included the Holy Name University Chorale, Tagbilaran City Government Chorale, Birhen sa Barangay Cogon Choir, St. Jude Thaddeus Youth Choir, Solemnis Chorus de Ubujan, Bohol Island State University Main Campus Chorale, Tagbilaran City Science High School Glee Club, SPA Vocals of Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School, Voicestra Choir, and Koro Seraphim.

Mayor Jane Yap, in her inspirational message, emphasized the profound impact of arts and culture on community unity and creativity. 

She stated, “In the harmonious notes of our choirs, we find the heartbeat of our city’s culture. It is through events like these that we celebrate our diversity, strengthen community bonds, and inspire creativity. Tagbilaran is not just a city; it is a canvas of stories, a symphony of voices, and a stage for cultural expression.”

Councilor Nicanor Besas, Chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Arts, Culture, and Heraldry, in his welcome message, affirmed the city’s commitment to fostering a vibrant arts scene.

The Choir Festival not only showcased the exceptional musical talent within the city but also provided a platform for cultural exchange and appreciation. 

The event emphasized the City Government’s commitment to promoting the arts as a vital component of community life, contributing to the cultural enrichment of Tagbilaran. 

The Choir Festival was a resounding success, resonating with the spirit of unity and artistic expression that defines Tagbilaran’s cultural landscape.

Tagbilaran City Science High School clinches honors in National Achievement Test 

Tagbilaran City Science High School (TCSHS) has emerged as a beacon of academic excellence, securing top honors in the National Achievement Test (NAT) for Grade 10 during the school year 2022-2023. 

The school not only claimed the prestigious title of being THE NUMBER ONE performing school in the entire Region 7 (Central Visayas), but also attained an impressive sixth position at the national level.

Mayor Jane Yap expressed her commendation for the outstanding achievement of TCSHS students, hailing them as academic trailblazers. 

She also extended her appreciation to the City Schools Division, led by Division Superintendent Dr. Wilfreda Bongalos, for their dedicated efforts in fostering an environment that nurtures excellence in education.

“The remarkable success of Tagbilaran City Science High School is a testament to the dedication and hard work of both students and educators. It showcases the city’s commitment to providing quality education and promoting academic brilliance,” Mayor Yap remarked.

The NAT G10 Exam is a crucial component of the K to 12 Basic Education Program’s national assessment framework. 

It evaluates whether Grade 10 learners meet the learning standards of the Junior High School curriculum. 

The test assesses problem-solving, information literacy, and critical thinking in English, Mathematics, Science, Filipino, and Araling Panlipunan.

Tagbilaran City Science High School’s remarkable achievement not only reflects the school’s dedication to academic excellence but also solidifies its reputation as a premier educational institution in Central Visayas.

The City Government of Tagbilaran is proud to congratulate Tagbilaran City Science High School for its outstanding achievement in being ranked as the top school in Region 7 and the sixth nationally for the Nat G10 Exam. This remarkable accomplishment reflects the dedication and commitment of the students, teachers, and staff of Tagbilaran City Science High School.
