Town News-JAGNA

On February 17, 2024, the Jagna FB Post had this announcement: “Sal Malaki’s Concert in Jagna to Boost Faith Tourism Project. In a harmonious encounter, renowned singer Sal Malaki (right) and Jagna Mayor Joseph Rañola (left) recently sat down to discuss an exciting upcoming concert. Set to take place on February 18, 2024, at the Jagna Cultural Center, the concert promises to be a significant event in the local cultural calendar. The concert isn’t just about music and entertainment. The revenue generated from this event is earmarked for a noble cause – the proposed Faith Tourism Project. This initiative aims to create a 50ft gigantic Birhen sa Barangay Statue, a symbol of faith and unity for the community. The project is a testament to the town’s commitment to promoting cultural and religious tourism, strengthening the local economy, and fostering community pride. In a delightful twist, a group of Geodetic Engineers from Bohol, led by Vice Mayor Teofisto Pagar Jr., joined the meeting. They participated in a sumptuous lunch, where conversations flowed around the concert, the Faith Tourism Project, and the promising future of Jagna. Sal Malaki and his golden tenor anchored the opera and his expressive singing sent it soaring! A Washington Post Review of the debut of a Filipino opera, Noli Me Tangere, at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, DC. The opera was also presented in Manhattan, NY and in Manila at the Newport Performing Arts Theater (World Resorts Manila) with him essaying the main role of Crisostomo Ibarra. Acclaimed Filipino tenor Sal Malaki beams with pride and joy being a Hinunangnon and outstanding son of Southern Leyte. He is one of the most seasoned artists of the Los Angeles Opera and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. He is an esteemed member of both the LAO and the LAMC in more than 25 seasons where he has performed in more than 140 opera productions since joining the LA Opera in over 75 different operas presented in its original language.” Contributed photo
