The recently appointed Regional Director of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Region 7, Joel Sevilla Erestain (seated and wearing eyeglasses), paid a courtesy call to Mayor Joseph Raňola (seated and wearing a cap) at his office on March 8, 2024. During the visit, the two leaders engaged in discussions regarding the ongoing partnership and collaboration aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness in hazard-prone areas, particularly focusing on addressing the landslide issues in Mayana and other vulnerable locations in Jagna. One of the key points of the meeting was the need to strengthen disaster response operations to effectively address and mitigate the impact of natural disasters, such as landslides and typhoons, in the province. Both officials emphasized the importance of a proactive approach to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents in the face of potential hazards. Mayor Raňola provided a comprehensive report to Regional Director Erestain, highlighting the swift recovery efforts of Jagna after the recent typhoon Odette. The Mayor commended the collaborative efforts of the local government unit (LGU) and the community, working hand in hand to clear the aftermath of the typhoon in just two days. This successful recovery serves as a testament to the resilience and efficiency of Jagna’s disaster response mechanisms.
