Tagbilaran City ushers in Saulog Sports Fest 2024

Tagbilaran City will ignite the spirit of sportsmanship among the people with the grand launch of the Saulog Sports Fest 2024 today, March 17, 2024, to be held at the Pres. Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex, this City.

The event will commence with a parade that will be drawing athletes, team officials, barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan representatives, and Mutya sa Tagbilaran candidates from all the city’s 15 barangays.  

The dynamic procession, from Plaza Rizal to the CPG Sports Complex, will set the stage for an action-packed celebration of athleticism and community unity.

Mayor Jane Yap will officially declare the Sports Fest open, urging everyone to rally behind sports activities as a means of promoting unity, discipline, and a healthy lifestyle.

Vice Mayor Adam Relson Jala will extend a warm welcome to the participants and spectators, setting the tone for the event.

Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado will also share his message, underscoring the significance of sports in promoting a healthy lifestyle among Tagbilaran’s residents.

As anticipation mounts, attendees will be treated to an exclusive preview of the Saulog Tagbilaran City Olympics 2024 through a captivating teaser.

The excitement will rise its peak as local athletes Stiffany Mae Alvarez and John Virgel Vitor will light the ceremonial cauldron, symbolizing the start of the thrilling festivities.

The program will be further elevated to a higher level by mesmerizing performances from the Vanguardians Dance Company , Barangay Tiptip Dancers, and the talented Ms. Jennifer Ann Talisic-Ariate, promising an exhilarating showcase of athleticism and community spirit throughout the Sports Fest.

The Saulog Sports Fest activities include the recently concluded Saulog Billiard Tournament at JRS Billiard on March 6-10, 2024 and Saulog Boxing on March 8, 2024.  

Upcoming events are the following: Weightlifting on March 19, 2024 at the Poblacion 1 Covered Court; Motorloop on March 22-24, 2024 at the Old Airport; Sepak Takraw on March 23-24, 2024 at the Tagbilaran City Central School; Chess Tournament on March 23 and April 13, 2024 at Island City Mall; Futsal on March 24, 2024 at the Saulog Gym.

The City Olympics continue with the activities in April: Karatedo on April 6, 2024 at the Saulog Gym; Sano Hoops Saulog Basketball Cup on April 6, 2024;  
Swim Fest at the Dr. Victoriano Tirol Aquatic Center, Taekwondo at Alta Citta, Ultimate Frisbee Tournament at the CPG Sports Complex and Glow in the Dark Dragon Boat Festival at the Bohol Tropics Resort Seafront on April 6-7, 2024; Arnis League Competition at the BQ Mall Atrium on April 6-10, 2024; Badminton Tournament at Galleria Luisa on April 6, 7 and 20, 2024; DCPNHS PTA-JHS Fun Run on April 13, 2024; 7S Football Festival at CPG Sports Complex and Mobile Legends Tournament at City Hall Atrium on April 13-14, 2024; Athletics competition at the CPG Sports Complex on April 13-14 and 20-21, 2024; Speed QB Airsoft Tournament at the Bool Covered Court on April 20, 2024; Airgun Competition at  Camp Bernido on April 20-21, 2024; Motorcross at barangay Cabawan on April 21, 2024;  1st Saulog National Chess Tournament at Plaza Rizal on April 29-30, 2024; and Kumong Bol-anon XV on April 30, 2024.

The sports events continue in the festive month of May with an Open Darts Tournament at the ICM Activity Center on May 4-5, 2024; Saulog Fun Run and Dance Festival at the City Hall Grounds on May 5, 2024; Inter Barangay Volleyball Tournament at Saulog Gym on May 5, 7, 9, 11 & 12; Aquascaping Contest at the Island City Mall on May 5-11, 2024; Tennis Tournament at the CPG Sports Complex on May 5-25, 2024; Soccer Tournament at the CPG Sports Complex on May 11-12, 2024; Table Tennis Tournament at the St. Joseph Cathedral on May 17-19, 2024; Dance Sport at the Bohol Cultural Center on May 18, 2024; Baseball Tournament at the CPG Sports Complex on May 18-19, 2024; and Softball Tournament at CPG Sports Complex on May 25-26, 2024.

Mayor Jane Yap addresses Liga ng mga Barangay Congress

Tagbilaran Mayor Jane Yap took the podium and addressed the Liga ng mga Barangay Tagbilaran City Chapter Congress on March 8, 2024 at the J Park Island Resort in Lapu-Lapu City.

Her engaging talk set the tone for the congress, emphasizing the pivotal role of unity in fostering progress across Barangays in Tagbilaran City.

In her inspirational message, Mayor Yap stated, “In unity, we find strength. Your dedication and hard work in the barangays contribute significantly to Tagbilaran’s progress. Let us continue working hand in hand for the betterment of our people and the whole city.”

The Liga Congress held on March 7-9, 2024 brought together dynamic barangay captains, kagawads and Sangguniang kabataan officials who participated in insightful discussions led by a lineup of distinguished speakers.

Mr. Alvin Acuzar, head of the City’s Barangay Affairs and Constituency Unit, discussed the topic- “Tagbilaran City Programs: Barangay Awards System on Governance and Accountability”.

His presentation highlighted the crucial role of barangays in local governance, focusing on good Barangay governance and the TOBOY awards.

City Local Government Operations Officer, Juliet Olalo shared valuable insights into the “Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays”, illuminating the standards and criteria essential for well-governed barangays.

Tagbilaran Liga ng mga Barangay President, Hon. Sergio Bangalao delved into the topic- “Liga Revised Capacity Development Plan for CY 2024-2026”, outlining a strategic development plan for the Liga ng mga Barangay.

Regional Executive Director Leocadio Trovela of the Department of the Interior and Local Government Central Visayas delivered the keynote address, providing a regional perspective on barangay governance.

On the other hand, City Budget Officer Marysol Perocho discussed “Barangay Budgeting”, shedding light on the financial aspects crucial for effective Barangay administration.

Hon. Ramonita Manatad, Punong Barangay of Subangdaku, Mandaue, shared insights from Subangdaku’s best practices in the Barangay Material Recovery Facility, showcasing successful waste management initiatives; while Engr. Raul Aparicio II focused on “Tagbilaran City Solid Waste Management”, underscoring the importance of sustainable waste management practices.
