LGU Tagbilaran holds Agrivet Dispersal at Bool district
The City Government of Tagbilaran continues its City Agrivet Membership Program, an Agrivet Dispersal initiative aimed at bolstering agricultural livelihoods. This activity was held at the barangay Bool Covered Court on March 19, 2024.
Mayor Jane Yap led the activity, reaffirming the city’s commitment to supporting local agriculture and empowering urban farmers and backyard raisers.
During the event, she stated, “This program exemplifies our unwavering commitment to empowering our communities and revitalizing our agricultural sector. Through this initiative, we aim to provide vital resources and support to our people, ensuring their continued success and contributing to the overall prosperity of Tagbilaran City. Together, let us work hand in hand to cultivate sustainable agricultural practices and build a brighter future for our city.”
In the same activity, City Administrator Cathelyn Torremocha delivered the welcome message, emphasizing the program’s significance in empowering residents and fostering economic growth at the grassroots level.
Messages of support and encouragement were also shared by City Councilor Odysseus Glovasa, Chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Agriculture, Food, Fisheries Resources, Livelihood, and Cooperatives, and Mr. Rey delos Santos, Nutrition Officer of the Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility.
Punong Barangay Jose Floro Ringca expressed gratitude, on behalf of the Barangay Council of Bool. He highlighted the importance of partnership and community involvement in driving agricultural development and improving livelihoods.
In his closing message, City Mayor’s Office Chief of Staff John Geesnell “Baba” Yap II reiterated the city’s unwavering commitment to supporting local farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture practices.
He stressed the need for continuous collaboration and engagement between the government, barangay officials, and residents to ensure the success and sustainability of the City Agrivet Membership Program.
Under the leadership of Dr. Genette Mae Egos-Yap, the City Agriculture and Veterinary Office oversees the implementation of the program.
Comprising four sub-projects, including backyard gardening, pet vaccination, chicken dispersal, and seaweed production, the program aims to provide comprehensive support to local farmers and animal raisers.
Each cycle of the program benefits from various resources, including seedlings, live chickens, feeds, and starter kits, alongside essential veterinary services.
Through these initiatives, Tagbilaran City continues to foster resilience by providing essential resources and support to enhance productivity and sustainability in its agriculture sector.

Tagbilaran City holds cultural forum
In a bid to deepen cultural awareness and historical understanding, the City Government of Tagbilaran, in collaboration with the Tagbilaran City Council for Culture and the Arts (TCCCA), the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP), and the Baclayon Parish Museum (BPM), organized a series of lectures and forums entitled “Bridging Cultures – Understanding The Sikatuna Legazpi Sandugo” on March 20, 2024 at the City Tourism Office.
The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Mayor Jane Yap represented by City Administrator Cathelyn Torremocha, who emphasized the importance of exploring and appreciating the diverse historical narratives that have shaped the city and its people.
In her message, Mayor Yap expressed her delight at the success of the initiative, “I am happy to witness the convergence of cultures and knowledge through the ‘Bridging Cultures’ initiative. Understanding our historical roots fosters unity and appreciation for our diverse heritage.”
Special messages were delivered by Atty. Ma. Cecilia U. Tirol, Director II of NMP Visayas, and Dr. Emmanuel Franco Calairo, NHCP Chairperson. Mr. Joseph Alexis Cadeliña, Head of the City Events, Culture, and Arts Office, provided the keynote address, setting the stage for an engaging exploration of history.
The series included three insightful lectures. Ms. Athena G. Vitor, BPM researcher and Assistant Administrator, delved into ‘The Sikatuna – Legazpi Sandugo: A Meeting of Two Worlds’.
Ms. Rachelle C. Lacea, Head of the National Museum – Bohol, shed light on ‘The “Sandugo” by Napoleon Abueva: An Important Cultural Property’.
Mr. Sherwin Sapong, Chair of the Committee on Photography at TCCCA, explored ‘Capturing The Essence of the 1565 Sandugo Through Imagery and Photography’.
A panel discussion titled ‘The Need for Research: Understanding the Sikatuna Legazpi Sandugo’ followed the lectures, featuring esteemed panelists: Dr. Neolita Sarabia of TCCCA, Mr. Charlemeine Tantingco of NMP, Ms. Perlina Alo of NHCP, Mr. Cooper Resabal and Mr. Gavin Cubillo of the Bohol Arts, Culture and Heritage Member.
Councilor Nicanor Besas, Chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Education, Science & Technology, Arts, Culture, and Heraldry, provided a closing message, highlighting the significance of continuous research and understanding in preserving and appreciating the rich cultural heritage of Tagbilaran.
The event served as a testament to Tagbilaran City’s commitment to fostering cultural appreciation and historical awareness among its residents.
