Bohol mayors urge PBBM to rename CPG Road to Aumentado Highway

In a surprising move, the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) – Bohol Chapter has issued a heartfelt plea to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., urging the reconsideration of a recent act to rename the Bohol Island Circumferential Road to President Carlos P. Garcia Circumferential Road.

Instead, they propose honoring the late Rep. Erico Boyles Aumentado by renaming it the Erico Boyles Aumentado (EBA) Highway.

In a letter dated March 12, 2024, addressed to President Marcos and penned by Pres. CPG Island town Mayor Fernando B. Estavilla, President of LMP – Bohol Chapter, the league expressed their strong sentiment, stating, “Erico Boyles Aumentado, in his 45 years of dedicated public service, has undeniably left a profound and lasting legacy to the people of Bohol.”

The letter highlights Aumentado’s unwavering commitment to public service and his tireless efforts in improving the lives of Boholanos.

LMP’s letter emphasizes that renaming the road to EBA Highway would not only pay tribute to Aumentado’s remarkable service but also serve as a constant reminder of his invaluable contributions to Bohol.

Mayor Estavilla’s letter further reads, “Therefore, we respectfully request your reconsideration of the renaming act and urge you to veto it in favor of renaming the road to Erico Boyles Aumentado (EBA) Highway.

He noted that “this decision would not only be a fitting tribute to a man who has dedicated his life to serving the people of Bohol but also a testament to the values of integrity, dedication, and selflessness in public service.”

The unanimous agreement of all 47 mayors of Bohol in support of this proposal demonstrates the widespread local backing for the initiative, Estavilla said. This consensus reflects the recognition of Aumentado’s exceptional service and legacy, he added.

The League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Bohol Chapter’s manifesto and the letter to the president represent a unified call to honor a man who has left an indelible mark on the province, the mayor of President CPG town said.

The renaming of the road is seen as a meaningful way to honor his memory and ensure that future generations recognize and appreciate his dedication to public service, he stressed.

The decision now rests with the president to consider this heartfelt request.
