Like Pontius Pilate, Capitol washes hands of Bohol Loop tragedy, death

Following the deaths and accidents in Bohol caused by a money-making motorcycle tour, the Provincial Government of Bohol has distanced itself from the organization of the Bohol Loop, a local motoring event.

In a statement released on Facebook, the government emphasized its supportive role and deferred organizational credit to Loop PH, the event’s official organizers.

The statement, dated March 25, 2024, outlined the government’s commitment to aiding the event’s success without direct involvement in its planning.

Loop PH has pledged to assist affected families and prioritize the safety of participants, known as ‘loopers.’

In light of recent events, the provincial government is undertaking a comprehensive review of its policies to enhance safety measures for residents and visitors alike.

Consequently, the administration has decided to halt the future staging of similar events.

Governor Erico “Aris” Aristole Aumentado, in a proclamation during a flag-raising ceremony, declared that motourism events, such as the Bohol Loop, will be discontinued within the province.

Citing concerns over accident risks and environmental pollution, Governor Aumentado stated that the province would no longer host such events, marking a significant shift in local policy towards motourism.

BOHOL LOOP STATEMENT

In the wake of a recent incident during the Bohol Loop 2024, the event’s organizers, Loop PH, has issued a statement acknowledging the gravity of the situation.

The statement, released on March 25, 2024, expresses their heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of those affected by the tragic events in Sikatuna, Bohol.

Since March 23, 2024, Loop PH has been in close communication with participants and locals, conveying their condolences and commitment to addressing the incident with the utmost seriousness.

The organizers have announced the establishment of a support program to aid the affected family, with more information to be provided shortly.

Loop PH has called for the community’s support and understanding as they work through this difficult period, ensuring that their focus remains on the victims, their families, and all those impacted by the unfortunate event.

This statement from Loop PH adds context to the Provincial Government of Bohol’s decision to suspend future motourism events, as announced by Aumentado.

The governor cited accident risks and environmental concerns as the primary reasons for discontinuing such events in the province, marking a significant policy shift in response to the recent Bohol Loop incident.
